Alright y’all… here we are at Week 3, and let me tell you something: this recovery journey is not for the weak. I’ve been rolling around on my scooter like a little neighborhood menace, still no weight bearing, still boot‑bound, and still counting down the days until my 1‑month appointment next week.
The doctor told me, “Try wearing the boot in the house and step down on your tiptoes a little. Just don’t overdo it.”
Well… how ’bout I can’t do it.
The pain? Baby, it feels like something is stabbing me AND burning me at the same time. I tried those tiptoe steps and ended up right back on the narcotics.
And let’s talk about those narcotics…
The Narcotics vs. My Stomach: A Battle Nobody Asked For
See, the problem with narcotics is simple: Constipation.
And I am NOT — let me repeat — NOT trying to be constipated. That’s a whole different kind of pain I don’t have time for.
One of my besties put me on to this juice from Aldi: Organic 100% Antioxidant Power Juice.
Now listen… it works. It keeps you regular. But you gotta drink a LOT of it.
And it’s not cheap! It’s only 33.3 fl oz and costs $3.79 a bottle. But it’s a shelf staple, so you can buy as many as you want — and trust me, I did.
If you’re prone to constipation, be careful with those narcotics because you will be in bad shape. I’m just trying to help somebody.
Shower Time: A Whole Production
Let’s talk about the shower situation.
You need a shower chair. Period.
The first week, you can only shower after the third day and after they check your incision. And that first shower? Baby, you will feel like you haven’t bathed since 1998.
You can wash your foot, but you cannot rub across the incision until the stitches come out. And once those stitches come out, you STILL won’t want to stand on that foot.
That shower chair? Best investment you will ever make. Get it on Amazon. Don’t play around.
Crutches vs. Scooter: A Personal Testimony
Crutches are not meant for everyone. And clearly, they were not made for me.
I had the crutches. Almost fell five times. They are currently sitting at the bottom of my steps, untouched, unbothered, and uninvited.
The scooter? My saving grace. Under $200 and worth every penny.
If you have an HSA, you can use it. If not, Klarna, Afterpay, whatever you need — just get the scooter. You’ll thank me later.
These three weeks have been rough, and I could NOT have done it without my scoot‑scooter.
Ace: The Scooter Security Guard
Now that we’re at Week 3, Ace is finally acclimated to the scooter, the boot, and my zooming to the bathroom like I’m in a race.
He no longer cuts me off unless he’s trying to get to a snack. He’s more sympathetic now — stays beside me instead of blocking me like a linebacker.
Growth. We love to see it.
My People: The Real MVPs
I’ve been out of the house for doctor appointments thanks to my Dezi. She makes sure I get everywhere I need to be, takes notes, and stays on me about what I can and cannot do.
My road dawg Dawne? She took me to the grocery store. But we can ONLY go to stores with the drivable carts, because otherwise we’d be there all day with my scooter. And yes — when you’re non‑weight‑bearing, you have to travel with ALL your equipment. It’s a lot, but better safe than sorry.
And now let me talk about Johnette — because she has been a whole blessing wrapped in laughter and love. She has cooked for me, sat with me, kept me company, and had me laughing even when I wanted to cry. She even took Ace out during the week for me — and let’s be clear, she was initially scared of him. But she showed up anyway. And that’s what matters. That’s family.
Oh, and trust me… there are others. Remember I told y’all I have some honorary sisters? They’ve been on it too. They’ll make their appearances in future blogs — because this recovery journey has brought out the whole squad.
Looking Ahead
Next week is my 1‑month appointment. The doctor will decide if I can start physical therapy. The goal is to get me strong enough to return to work in December.
For now, it’s me, my scooter, my boot, my Aldi juice, and my little four‑legged bodyguard.
To be continued… 👣❤️
